NAME OF FIRM / INSTITUTION/ DEPARTMENT
The name of the firm or institution or department is written on the left margin below the date.

SALUTATION
We write Sir/ Madam for business executive , managers or proprietors. However we should avoid the less formal salutation of Dear Sir or Dear Madam in letters to the government officials or the head of the institution. We should write Sir/ Madam.
THE BODY
Formal letters demand a formal or a matter of fact treatment . There is no scope for superfluous or unnecessary details in formal letters student. We should go by highlighting all the necessary factors for details demanded from them .we should follow a systematic and logical order in presenting the necessary details
THE COMPLIMENTARY CLOSE
In formal or business as well as official letters the most logical endings are:- yours truly or yours sincerely . In official letters we prefer yours faithfully as the most common complimentary close.
SIGNATURE
All Formal letters require your full signature .The name and the designation come just below it.
