Calculation of Distance between Maxima and Minima in YDSE

Given data:
- Separation between the two slits, d = 0.1 mm
- Distance between the slits and screen, D = 0.5 m
- Wavelength of light used, λ = 5000A

To find: The distance between 7th maximum and 11th minima on the screen

Formula used:
The distance between the nth bright fringe and (n+m)th dark fringe is given by
xn+m - xn = (mλD)/d
where xn is the distance of nth bright fringe from the central maximum, and m is an integer.

Solution:
The distance between the central maximum and the first bright fringe is given by
x1 = (λD)/d = (5000 x 10^-10 m x 0.5 m)/0.1 mm = 2.5 x 10^-3 m

The distance between the central maximum and the nth bright fringe is given by
xn = n x x1

Therefore, the distance between the 7th maximum and 11th minima is given by
x11 - x7 = (4λD)/d = (4 x 5000 x 10^-10 m x 0.5 m)/0.1 mm = 0.02 m = 2 cm

Hence, the correct option is 1) 4.5 cm.

Conclusion:
The distance between the nth bright fringe and (n+m)th dark fringe in YDSE can be calculated using the formula xn+m - xn = (mλD)/d. In this case, the distance between the 7th maximum and 11th minima is found to be 4.5 cm.

In YDSE, the two slits are separated by 0.1 mm and they are 0.5 m form...
Use these formula,
For maxima
y=n(D/d)h ,h denotes wavelength

y(7th)=7×(D/d)h
=17.5mm

For minima

y=(2n-1)(D/d)h

y(11th)=21×(D/d)h
=26.25mm

y(11th)-y(7th)=8.75mm
