Guttation is the result ofa)Transpirationb)Osmosisc)Diffusiond)Root pr...
Explanation:
Guttation is the process by which water droplets are released from the tips or edges of leaves of some plants, particularly during the night or early morning. It occurs due to the presence of root pressure.

Root Pressure:
Root pressure is the force exerted by the roots of plants that pushes water and dissolved minerals upwards in the xylem vessels of the stem. It is responsible for the movement of water from the roots to the leaves. Root pressure is generated by active pumping of ions into the xylem by root cells, which increases the osmotic potential in the xylem. This causes water to move into the xylem from surrounding cells, creating a positive pressure.

Process of Guttation:
During the night or early morning, when transpiration is low or absent, the root pressure builds up in the xylem vessels. This pressure pushes water up from the roots and forces it out through special openings called hydathodes present at the tips or edges of leaves. These hydathodes allow water to be released in the form of droplets.

Difference from Transpiration:
Transpiration is the loss of water from the aerial parts of the plant, mainly through the stomata present on the leaves. It occurs during the day when the stomata are open and there is a continuous flow of water from the roots to the leaves. Guttation, on the other hand, occurs during the night or early morning when the stomata are closed, and the flow of water is mainly driven by root pressure.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, guttation is the result of root pressure. It occurs when the root cells actively pump ions into the xylem, creating a positive pressure that forces water out through hydathodes on the leaves. Guttation is a mechanism for plants to release excess water when transpiration is low and helps in maintaining the water balance in the plant.
