A merchant marks his goods at Rs. 900 and allows a discount of 25%. If...
Given:
Marked price (MP) = Rs. 900
Discount = 25%
Profit = 12.5%

To find:
Cost price (CP) of the article

Solution:
1. Calculate the Selling Price (SP) after discount
Discount = 25%
Therefore, Selling Price = MP - Discount
= 900 - (25/100)*900
= 900 - 225
= Rs. 675

2. Calculate the CP from the given profit percentage
Profit = 12.5%
Let the CP be x
Profit = SP - CP
12.5% of CP = SP - CP
12.5/100 * x = 675 - x
0.125x = 675 - x
1.125x = 675
x = 600

Therefore, the cost price of the article is Rs. 600.

Hence, option (b) is the correct answer.
