- Secretion of Hydrogen Ions: The PCT secretes hydrogen ions into the filtrate to maintain the pH balance of the body.
- Reabsorption of Bicarbonate: The PCT reabsorbs bicarbonate ions to maintain the acid-base balance of the body.
- Reabsorption of Nutrients: The PCT reabsorbs essential nutrients like vitamins, electrolytes, and minerals.

2. Distal Convoluted Tubule (DCT)

The DCT is the last segment of the renal tubule and is responsible for the fine-tuning of the urine composition. The functions of DCT are as follows:

- Reabsorption of Sodium: The DCT reabsorbs sodium ions by using Na+/Cl- cotransporters.
- Regulation of Potassium and Calcium: The DCT regulates the levels of potassium and calcium ions in the body by reabsorbing or secreting them.
- Secretion of Hydrogen Ions: The DCT secretes hydrogen ions into the filtrate to maintain the pH balance of the body.
- Reabsorption of Water: The DCT reabsorbs a small amount of water by using aquaporin channels.
- Secretion of Waste Products: The DCT secretes waste products like urea and drugs into the filtrate for excretion.

→ After reabsorption of water the urine travels through loop of the Henle into Distal convoluted tubule. Here water and salts are excreted. It maintains proper concentration and pH of the urine.

→ The secretion if wastes like extra salts,ions of K+ ,Na+,Cl - and H+ takes place in distal convoluted tubule.
