What is known as a Recemic mixture &Why it is optically inactive?
Racemic mixture :--> A mixture containing two enantiomers in equal proportions will have zero optical rotation. Such a mixture is known as racemic mixture.
E.g :-> Racemic acid (racemic form of tartaric acid) is an equal mixture of two mirror-image isomers (enantiomers), optically active in opposing directions.
Racemic mixture is an equimolecular mixture of enantiomeric pairs. The rotation caused by the molecules of one enantiomer is cancelled by the rotation caused by the molecules of other enantiomer. So, that's why racemic mixture becomes optically inactive.

A racemic mixture is a mixture of equal amounts of two enantiomers, which are mirror images of each other. In other words, it contains an equal amount of both the left-handed (S) and right-handed (R) forms of a chiral molecule. A racemic mixture is optically inactive because the rotations caused by the two enantiomers cancel each other out.
