What is the main difference between amoeba and entamoeba?
¶¶ Difference between Amoeba and Entamoeba:

1)Entamoebas are internal parasite and cause diseases in animal and humans, whereas Amoebas are heterotrophes and eat organisms present in water such as plankton.

2) Contractile vacuole is present in amoeba but absent in Entamoeba, because Amoeba lives in water and needs osmotic regulation. Entamoeba lives as parasite inside the host body, so it doesn't need contractile vacuole.

What is the main difference between amoeba and entamoeba?
**Main Difference between Amoeba and Entamoeba**

Amoeba and Entamoeba are two different genera of single-celled organisms belonging to the phylum Amoebozoa. Despite having similar names, there are several differences between these two organisms.

**1. Classification and Habitat:**
- Amoeba: It belongs to the genus Amoeba and is found in various freshwater bodies like ponds, lakes, and rivers. It can also be found in moist soil.
- Entamoeba: It belongs to the genus Entamoeba and is primarily found in the intestines of humans and other animals. It is an endoparasite.

**2. Morphology:**
- Amoeba: Amoebae have a typical amoeboid shape with a flexible cell membrane. They have a single nucleus and lack a definite shape, often appearing blob-like.
- Entamoeba: Entamoebae also have an amoeboid shape but possess a more defined and rounded cell membrane. They also have a single nucleus.

**3. Locomotion:**
- Amoeba: Amoebae move by extending their cytoplasmic extensions called pseudopodia, which help them crawl and change their shape. This movement is known as amoeboid movement.
- Entamoeba: Entamoebae also move using pseudopodia, but their movement is less active and slower compared to Amoeba.

**4. Feeding and Nutrition:**
- Amoeba: Amoebae are heterotrophic organisms that feed on microscopic organisms like bacteria and algae. They capture their prey by engulfing them through phagocytosis.
- Entamoeba: Entamoebae are parasitic organisms that feed on the host's tissues and cells. They absorb nutrients by direct contact with the host's tissues or by ingesting host cells.

**5. Reproduction:**
- Amoeba: Amoebae reproduce asexually through a process called binary fission. The nucleus divides, and the cell splits into two identical daughter cells.
- Entamoeba: Entamoebae also reproduce asexually through binary fission, but they can also undergo sexual reproduction by forming cysts.

**6. Pathogenicity:**
- Amoeba: Amoebae are generally free-living and non-pathogenic to humans. They can occasionally cause infections in humans but are not as common as Entamoeba infections.
- Entamoeba: Entamoebae are pathogenic and can cause diseases like amoebic dysentery and liver abscess in humans. The most common species causing such infections is Entamoeba histolytica.

In conclusion, the main difference between Amoeba and Entamoeba lies in their habitat, morphology, locomotion, feeding, reproduction, and pathogenicity. While Amoeba is a free-living organism found in freshwater environments, Entamoeba is a parasitic organism primarily found in the intestines of humans and animals.
