Given:

  • Magnification (m) = 4

  • Radius of curvature (R) = -20cm (concave mirror)



To find:

  • Object distance (u)



Formula Used:

  • Magnification (m) = -v/u

  • Radius of curvature (R) = 2f



Solution:

We know that magnification (m) = -v/u

Given, m = 4, therefore -v/u = 4

Also, R = -20cm

Using the formula R = 2f, we can calculate the focal length of the mirror:

2f = R

f = R/2 = -20/2 = -10cm

Now, we can use the formula:

m = -v/u = 4

-10/u = 4

u = -10/4 = -2.5cm

But, object distance cannot be negative. Therefore, the object must be placed at a distance of 2.5cm in front of the mirror.
