Option a is correct friend. Because the chemistry of nitrogen is completely different to the chemistry of sulphur. Sulphur dioxide dissolves in water and reacts to form sulphurous acid which attacks bacteria etc. Nitrogen dioxide does not form an acid, it only dissolves in water.
