Electric Circuit Analysis

Given Circuit

The given electric circuit consists of a voltage source of 12V connected in series with two resistors of 10Ω and 20Ω respectively.

Current in the Circuit

To find the current flowing in the circuit, we will use Ohm's law which states that the current flowing in a circuit is directly proportional to the voltage applied to the circuit and inversely proportional to the resistance of the circuit.

I = V/R


In this circuit, the total resistance is the sum of the resistance of the two resistors.

Rtotal = R1 + R2


Rtotal = 10Ω + 20Ω


Rtotal = 30Ω


Now, we can calculate the current flowing in the circuit using the formula mentioned above.

I = V/Rtotal


I = 12V/30Ω


I = 0.4A


Therefore, the current flowing in the circuit is 0.4A.

Potential Difference Across 10Ω Resistor

To find the potential difference across the 10Ω resistor, we will use Ohm's law again. This time, we will use the formula to calculate the voltage drop across the resistor.

V = IR


V = 0.4A x 10Ω


V = 4V


Therefore, the potential difference across the 10Ω resistor is 4V.
