Ploidy Levels in Plant Reproduction

Nucleus:
- The nucleus of a plant cell is typically diploid, meaning it contains two sets of chromosomes (2n).

Megaspore Mother Cell:
- The megaspore mother cell, also known as the megasporocyte, is also diploid (2n).

Functional Megaspore:
- After meiosis occurs in the megaspore mother cell, only one of the four daughter cells produced will become the functional megaspore. This cell is haploid (n), meaning it contains one set of chromosomes.

Female Gametophyte:
- The female gametophyte, also known as the embryo sac, is formed from the functional megaspore. It is also haploid (n).

Microspore:
- The microspore is the precursor to the male gametophyte. It is produced through meiosis in the microsporocyte, which is also diploid (2n). The microspore itself is haploid (n).

Synergid:
- The synergid cells are part of the female gametophyte and are haploid (n).

Antipodal Cells:
- The antipodal cells are also part of the female gametophyte and are haploid (n).

Oospore:
- The oospore is the result of fertilization between the male and female gametes. It is diploid (2n), containing two sets of chromosomes.

Nucellus:
- The nucellus is the central part of the ovule and is diploid (2n).

Placenta:
- The placenta is the tissue inside the ovary that nourishes the developing seeds. It is also diploid (2n).

Chalaza:
- The chalaza is the base of the ovule where the nucellus and integuments meet. It is diploid (2n).

Endosperm:
- The endosperm is the triploid (3n) tissue that provides nutrients to the developing embryo.

Tapetum:
- The tapetum is the innermost layer of the anther and is diploid (2n). It plays an important role in nourishing the developing pollen grains.
