Magnesium (Mg) and iron (Fe) are essential macronutrients for plants. Plants require both Fe and Mg for synthesis of chlorophyll. Mg is absorbed by plants in the form of divalent magnesium ion (Mg2+). It is required in the growing area of roots and stem, seeds, leaves, etc. It occurs as magnesium pectate in middle lamella. It is responsible for the ring structure of chlorophyll. Iron is required in larger amount in comparison to other micronutrients. Plants obtain iron in the form of ferric ions (Fe3+).
