• M.N. Roy was a socialist political activist and philosopher.
• He proposed the idea of a Constituent Assembly for India in the Karachi session of the Indian National Congress in 1931.
• Under this proposal, the members of the Constituent Assembly would be elected by the provincial assemblies.
• The idea was later adopted by the Congress in its resolution of 1935.
• The Constituent Assembly was eventually formed in 1946, and it drafted the Constitution of India, which came into effect on January 26, 1950.
