The isovolumetric systole of a normal cardiac cycle refers to the phase in which the ventricles are contracting and the semilunar valves are closed. During this phase, the pressure within the ventricles increases as they contract. The semilunar valves, which are located at the entrances to the aorta and pulmonary artery, remain closed during this phase. This increase in pressure within the ventricles eventually surpasses the pressure in the aorta and pulmonary artery, causing the semilunar valves to open. As a result, blood is able to flow from the ventricles into the aorta and pulmonary artery.
