Polyspermy is the entry of more than one sperm into the egg, which can lead to abnormal development of the embryo. Therefore, it needs to be prevented during fertilization.

There are three mechanisms that prevent polyspermy:

1. Depolarization of membrane:

- Upon fusion of the sperm and egg membranes, the egg membrane undergoes a rapid depolarization, which makes it impermeable to other sperm.
- The depolarization is caused by the influx of calcium ions through the sperm-egg fusion pore, which triggers the cortical reaction.

2. Cortical reaction:

- The cortical reaction is a series of events that occur in the egg cortex (outer layer) upon sperm entry.
- It involves the release of cortical granules, which contain enzymes that modify the zona pellucida (a glycoprotein layer surrounding the egg) and make it impenetrable to other sperm.
- The cortical reaction also causes the formation of the fertilization membrane, which is a barrier that prevents the entry of other sperm.

3. Formation of fertilization membrane:

- The fertilization membrane is a tough layer that forms around the egg after the cortical reaction.
- It prevents the entry of other sperm by physically blocking their access to the egg.

Therefore, the correct answer is option 'D', which includes all of these mechanisms that prevent polyspermy.
