Provisions of the Indian Factory Act 1891

The Indian Factory Act 1891 was enacted to regulate the working conditions in factories in India. The provisions of the Act were:

1. Working hours restricted to 9 hours per day for children: The Act prescribed that no child under the age of 14 years shall be employed in any factory for more than 9 hours in a day. This provision was aimed at protecting the health and safety of children who were often forced to work long hours in hazardous conditions.

2. Children to get four holidays in a month: The Act also provided that every child employed in a factory shall be allowed at least four holidays in a month. This provision was aimed at ensuring that children had adequate time to rest and recover from the physical and mental strain of working in a factory.

3. Hazardous machinery to be properly fenced off: The Act also required that all machinery in a factory that was dangerous to life or limb should be properly fenced off. This provision was aimed at preventing accidents and injuries in factories.

Why option D is the correct answer?

Option D states that neither of the provisions mentioned in the question is correct. This is because the provisions mentioned in the question are not accurate. The Indian Factory Act 1891 had several other provisions that were aimed at regulating the working conditions in factories. Some of these provisions were:

- No woman shall be employed in any factory for more than 12 hours in a day
- No person shall be employed in any factory for more than 60 hours in a week
- Every factory employing more than 100 persons shall have a canteen for the use of its workers
- Every factory employing more than 500 persons shall have a welfare officer to look after the welfare of its workers

Therefore, the correct answer is option D, as the provisions mentioned in the question are incomplete and do not provide a complete picture of the Indian Factory Act 1891.
