Consider the following statements.1. President can make such provision...
The correct answer is option 'C' i.e. both 1 and 2 are correct.

Explanation:

Article 156 of the Indian Constitution deals with the appointment, term, and conditions of the Governor. The President appoints the Governor of a state and he holds office during the pleasure of the President. The Governor is the constitutional head of a state and performs various functions such as:

- He/She is the ceremonial head of the state and represents the state at official functions and ceremonies.
- He/She is the chancellor of universities in the state.
- He/She appoints the Chief Minister and other members of the Council of Ministers.
- He/She summons and prorogues the sessions of the state legislature.
- He/She gives assent to bills passed by the state legislature and sends them to the President for his/her assent.

In case of any contingency not provided for in the Constitution, the President can make such provision as he thinks fit for the discharge of the functions of the Governor. This is mentioned in Article 156(2) of the Constitution.

Moreover, the President can appoint the Chief Justice of the concerned state High Court temporarily to discharge the functions of the Governor of that state. This is mentioned in Article 160 of the Constitution.

Therefore, both statements 1 and 2 are correct.
