The conspicuous vegetative body of the Funaria is represented by the leafy gametophores, that remain attached to the substratum with the help of rhizoids. They are branched, slender and multicellular. They are stout, brown, almost cable like and form the main anchoring strands. The rhizoids are colorless in the young stage but become red or brown at maturity. The rhizoidal branches have oblique cross walls and grow down into the soil. They have underdeveloped chloroplasts, but become green, when they come above the surface of the soil. The rhizoidal branches absorb water and minerals from the soil. Thus, the correct answer is option 'B'.
