Ans. d) because spirogyra shows isogamous type of sexual reproduction hence fusing gametes have same morphology.
in Every sexual reproduction , one of the gamete comes from male reproductive part i. e male gamete while other fusing gamete comes from female reproductive system i. e. female gamete . both type of gametes may be similar in shape and size as in isogamy but functioning ( physiology) of both gamete will be different because both type of gametes have different chromosome and certain different metabollic reactions.

The gametes in Spirogyra (lateral conjugation) area)Morphologically an...
The correct answer is option 'D' - the gametes in Spirogyra (lateral conjugation) are morphologically similar but physiologically dissimilar. Let's understand the reasoning behind this answer.

Spirogyra is a filamentous green algae that reproduces asexually by fragmentation and sexually by conjugation. Conjugation is a process by which two filaments come in close contact and exchange genetic material through a conjugation tube. This process leads to the formation of gametes in Spirogyra.

Morphologically similar:
- The gametes in Spirogyra are morphologically similar because they are both haploid and have the same structure. They are small, elongated cells that are produced by the fragmentation of filaments during conjugation.
- The gametes are similar in size, shape, and structure, with no apparent differences between male and female gametes.

Physiologically dissimilar:
- Although the gametes in Spirogyra are morphologically similar, they are physiologically dissimilar. This means that they differ in their physiological functions or abilities.
- In Spirogyra, the gametes are not differentiated into distinct male and female types. Instead, they are isogamous, meaning they have similar appearances and cannot be distinguished as male or female.
- However, the physiological functions of the gametes differ during conjugation. One of the gametes acts as the donor, while the other acts as the recipient. The donor gamete transfers its genetic material through a conjugation tube to the recipient gamete.

In conclusion, the gametes in Spirogyra (lateral conjugation) are morphologically similar but physiologically dissimilar. This is because they have the same structure and appearance, but they perform different functions during conjugation.
