Venturi meter
Venturi meter is a device used to measure the flow rate of a fluid flowing through a pipe. Venturi meter is divided into 3 parts: convergent cone, divergent cone, and throat.
The long length of the divergent section is kept three to four times the convergent length to avoid any possibility of flow separation and to minimize frictional losses occurring in a flow.
Streamlines
Streamlines are the lines drawn through the flow field in such a manner that the velocity vector of the fluid at each and every point on the streamline is tangent to the streamline at that instant.
For 1D Flow, it is a line, and for 2D flow, it is represented by a curve. The equation of streamline is given by:
udy − vdx = 0
Bernoulli’s Equation
Bernoulli’s Equation is known as the conservation of energy principle. It states that in a steady, ideal flow of an incompressible fluid, the total energy at any point of the fluid is constant. The total energy consists of pressure energy, kinetic energy, and potential energy or datum energy.
Pitot Tube
Pitot Tube is a device used for measuring the velocity of flow at any point in a pipe or a channel.
It is based on the principle that if the velocity of flow at a point becomes zero, the pressure there is increased due to the conversion of the kinetic energy into pressure energy.
