Verified Answer
The age of the father is twice that of the elder son. After ten years,...
Let the age of father be ‘f’ years, elder son be ‘e’ years and younger son be ‘y’ years.

The present age of the father is twice that of the elder son.

f = 2e    ---(i)

Ten years hence the age of the father will be three times that of the younger son.

(f + 10) = 3 (y + 10)

f + 10 = 3y + 30

f = 3y + 20    ---(ii)

If the difference in ages of the two sons is as 15 years.

e – y = 15

e = 15 + y    ---(iii)

If we put the value of equation (iii) in equation (i), we get:

f = 2(15 + y)

=> f = 30 + 2y

The age of the father is twice that of the elder son. After ten years,...
Given information:
- The age of the father is twice that of the elder son.
- After ten years, the age of the father will be three times that of the younger son.
- The difference in ages between the two sons is 15 years.

Let's solve the problem step by step:

Step 1: Assign variables to the unknowns:
- Let's assume the age of the elder son is X years.
- Therefore, the age of the younger son will be X - 15 years. (Since the difference in ages between the two sons is 15 years)
- And the age of the father will be 2X years. (Twice that of the elder son)

Step 2: Form equations based on the given information:
- After ten years, the age of the father will be (2X + 10) years.
- After ten years, the age of the younger son will be (X - 15 + 10) years.
- According to the given information, the age of the father after ten years will be three times that of the younger son:
2X + 10 = 3(X - 5)

Step 3: Solve the equation:
- Distribute and simplify the equation: 2X + 10 = 3X - 15
- Rearrange the equation: 3X - 2X = 10 + 15
- Combine like terms: X = 25

Step 4: Find the age of the father:
- The age of the elder son (X) is 25 years.
- Therefore, the age of the father is 2X = 2 * 25 = 50 years.

Conclusion:
The age of the father is 50 years. Therefore, the correct answer is option (a) 50 years.
