Understanding the Genetic Background
Haemophilia and colour blindness are both sex-linked traits associated with the X chromosome. Haemophilia is caused by the absence of certain clotting factors (factor VIII and IX), while colour blindness affects the perception of red and green colors.
Parental Genotypes
- The man's father is colourblind (XcY), and his mother is normal (XX). Therefore, the man (XcY) inherits the colourblind allele (Xc) from his father and a normal X chromosome from his mother. His genotype is XcY.
- The woman has a haemophilic father (XhY) and a normal mother (XX). Thus, she inherits the haemophilia allele (Xh) from her father and a normal X from her mother. Her genotype is XhX.
Progeny Genotypes
When XcY (man) and XhX (woman) reproduce, their possible offspring can be determined as follows:
- Male offspring can inherit either Xc or Y from the father and Xh or X from the mother:
- Possible male genotypes: XcY (colourblind) or XY (normal).
- Female offspring can inherit Xc or X from the father and Xh or X from the mother:
- Possible female genotypes: XhXc (carrier for haemophilia and colourblind) or XX (normal).

- For male progenies:
- 50% (1 out of 2) will be colourblind (XcY).
- 50% (1 out of 2) will be normal (XY).
- For female progenies:
