The Second Satyagrahi of the ‘Individual Satyagraha’ was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Let us understand more about it.

Background:
The Individual Satyagraha was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on 17th October 1940, as a protest against the British government’s decision to involve India in the Second World War without consulting the Indian leaders. In this Satyagraha, selected individuals were given the permission to start their own Satyagraha and court arrest. The aim was to put pressure on the British government to grant India independence.

Vinoba Bhave:
Vinoba Bhave, a social reformer, was the first Satyagrahi of this movement. He started his Satyagraha on 17th October 1940, and courted arrest on 5th November 1940. He was imprisoned for six months.

Jawaharlal Nehru:
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, was chosen as the Second Satyagrahi of the ‘Individual Satyagraha’. He started his Satyagraha on 10th January 1941, and courted arrest on 24th January 1941. He was imprisoned for more than two years.

The ‘Individual Satyagraha’ was a significant movement in India’s freedom struggle. It showcased the power of individual protest and highlighted the importance of non-violent resistance.
