  • a)
    -1.51 %
  • b)
    3.03 %
  • c)
    1.51 %
  • d)
    -3.03 %
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
An energy meter is connected to a load drawing 20 A, 220 V and 0.8 p....
Energy consumed by load =VIcos⁡ϕ×t×10−3KWhr
=220×20×0.8×3×10−3KWhr=10.56KWhr
The expected revolution for the measurement of true energy =10.56× meter constant
=10.56×250=2640rev
But meter makes the revolution =2600 rev.
So, the error =
= −1.51%

An energy meter is connected to a load drawing 20 A, 220 V and 0.8 p....
Given data:
Load current, I = 20 A
Supply voltage, V = 220 V
Power factor, PF = 0.8
Time, t = 3 hours
Meter constant, K = 250 rev/KWhr
Number of revolutions observed, NR = 2600

Calculation:
Real power consumed by the load, P = VIcos(θ) = 20 x 220 x 0.8 = 3520 W
Energy consumed by the load, E = Pt = 3520 x 3 = 10560 Wh = 10.56 KWh
Number of revolutions per unit of energy, K' = 1/K = 1/250 = 0.004 rev/Wh
Energy recorded by the meter, EM = NR x K' = 2600 x 0.004 = 10.4 KWh
Percentage error in the reading, % error = [(EM - E)/E] x 100 = [(10.4 - 10.56)/10.56] x 100 = -1.51%

Therefore, the error in the reading is -1.51%, which is option A.
