A bolt is manufactured by 3 machines A, B and C. Machine A turns out ...
Solution:

Given,
- Machine A produces twice as many items as B, and machines B and C produce an equal number of items.
- 2% of bolts produced by A and B are defective and 4% of bolts produced by C are defective.

Let's assume that machine B produces 'x' number of bolts, then machine A produces '2x' bolts and machine C also produces 'x' bolts.

Total number of bolts produced = x + 2x + x = 4x

Number of defective bolts produced by A and B = 2% of (x + 2x) = 0.06x
Number of defective bolts produced by C = 4% of x = 0.04x

Total number of defective bolts produced = 0.06x + 0.04x = 0.1x

Probability of choosing a defective bolt from the stockpile = Number of defective bolts / Total number of bolts
= 0.1x / 4x
= 0.025

Therefore, the probability that the chosen bolt is defective is 0.025 or 2.5%. Hence, the correct answer is option 'A'.
