In the following question, two statements numbered I and II are given. On solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Solve for both the quantities and choose the correct option.
Quantity I: Pipe P and Q can fill a tank in 40 minutes and 60 minutes respectively. A waste pipe R can empty the tank in 30 minutes. Pipe P and Q are opened initially and after 8 minutes pipe R is also opened, then in how much time (sec) after opening of pipe R, tank will be full?
Quantity II: What is surface area (m2) of spherical ball having radius equal to radius of circular field having cost of flooring at the rate of ₹24.5/m2 is ₹15092?
  • a)
    Quantity I < quantity="" />
  • b)
    Quantity I > Quantity II
  • c)
    Quantity I ≥ Quantity II
  • d)
    Quantity I ≤ Quantity II
  • e)
    Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can't be determined.
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
In the following question, two statements numbered I and II are given...
Quantity I:
Part of tank filled by P and Q in 1 minute = (1/40 + 1/60) = 1/24
Part of tank filled by P and Q in 8 minutes = 8/24 = 1/3
Remaining tank = (1 - 1/3) = 2/3
Part of tank filled by pipe P, Q and R in 1 minute = (1/40 + 1/60 - 1/30) = 1/120
2/3rd of Part of tank filled by pipe P, Q and R = (120 x 2/3) = 80 minutes
Thus, required time = (80 x 60) = 4800 seconds
Quantity II:
Area of circular field = 15092/24.5 = 616
πR2 = 616
R2 = 196
Radius = 14 meter
Surface area of sphere = 4πR2 = (4 x 22/7 x 196)
Surface area = 2464 m2
Hence, Quantity I > Quantity II
