Calculation:
1. Molar mass of CaCO3:
- The molar mass of CaCO3 is 40.08 g/mol (Ca) + 12.01 g/mol (C) + (3 * 16.00 g/mol) = 100.09 g/mol
2. Moles of CaCO3:
- Moles = Mass / Molar mass
- Moles = 50 g / 100.09 g/mol = 0.499 moles
3. Volume of CO2:
- According to the balanced chemical equation: CaCO3 → CaO + CO2
- 1 mole of CaCO3 produces 1 mole of CO2
- Volume of 1 mole of any gas at STP (Standard Temperature and Pressure) is 22.4 L
- Therefore, 0.499 moles of CaCO3 will produce 0.499 moles of CO2
- Volume of CO2 = 0.499 moles * 22.4 L/mole = 11.192 L

Answer:
The volume of CO2 obtained by thermal decomposition of 50 g of CaCO3 is 11.2 L. Therefore, the correct answer is option B.
