Given below are four statements (A - D) each with one or two blanks. Select the option which correctly fills up the blanks in any two statements.

(A) Multiple ovulation (i) transfer technology is for (ii) improvement.

(B) In it a cow is administered (i) to induce follicular maturation and (ii) ovulation.

(C) Instead of one egg per cycle, (i) eggs are produced through it.

(D) The fertilised (i) at (ii) celled stages are recovered non-surgically and transferred to surrogate mothers.

  • a)
    (A)-(i) sygote, (ii)pureline; (B)-(i)oestrogen, (ii) poly

  • b)
(A)-(i) embryo, (ii) herd; (D)-(i) zygote, (ii) 4-6

  • c)
    (C)-(i) 6-8; (D)-(i) eggs, (ii) 4-8

  • d)
    (B)-(i) FSH, (ii) super; (C)-(i) 6-8

Given below are four statements (A - D) each with one or two blanks. S...
Multiple Ovulation Transfer Technology is a programme for herd improvement. In this, a cow is administered with FSH activity to induce superovulation by follicular maturation due to which it yields 6-8 eggs per cycle instead of one egg. The fertilised eggs at 8-32 celled stages are recovered non-surgically and transferred to surrogate mothers. The genetic mother is available for another round of superovulation. This technology helps to increase herd size in a short time.

Given below are four statements (A - D) each with one or two blanks. S...
Explanation:

Statement (A): Multiple ovulation is for improvement.
The blank (i) in statement (A) can be filled with "embryo" because multiple ovulation is a technique used to induce the production of multiple embryos in an animal. This technique is commonly used in animal breeding programs to increase the number of offspring produced by genetically superior animals.

The blank (ii) in statement (A) can be filled with "herd" because the purpose of multiple ovulation is to improve the genetic quality of a herd. By producing multiple embryos from genetically superior animals, the overall quality of the herd can be improved.

Statement (B): In it, a cow is administered to induce follicular maturation and ovulation.
The blank (i) in statement (B) can be filled with "FSH" (follicle-stimulating hormone) because FSH is often administered to cows to induce follicular maturation. FSH stimulates the growth and development of follicles in the ovaries, leading to the maturation of multiple eggs.

The blank (ii) in statement (B) can be filled with "super" because the purpose of administering FSH is to induce superovulation, which is the production of multiple ovulations in a single cycle. This increases the chances of fertilization and the production of multiple embryos.

Statement (C): Instead of one egg per cycle, multiple eggs are produced through it.
The blank (i) in statement (C) can be filled with "6-8" because multiple ovulation can lead to the production of 6-8 eggs in a single cycle. This is significantly more than the usual production of one egg per cycle.

Statement (D): The fertilized embryos at 4-6 celled stages are recovered non-surgically and transferred to surrogate mothers.
The blank (i) in statement (D) can be filled with "zygote" because the embryos at the 4-6 celled stages are referred to as zygotes. These zygotes are fertilized eggs that have undergone several cell divisions.

The blank (ii) in statement (D) can be filled with "4-8" because embryos at the 4-6 celled stages typically have 4-8 cells. This is the stage at which the embryos are recovered non-surgically and transferred to surrogate mothers.

Therefore, the correct option is (D):
(B)-(i) FSH, (ii) super;
(C)-(i) 6-8.
