Haldane effect plays more important role in promoting carbon dioxide tranport than that of the Bhr's effect in promoting oxygen trasnport because

  • a)
carbaminohaemoglobin is a stronger acid which spilts into hydrogen ion (H+) and bicarbonate (HCO3-)

  • b)
oxyhaemoglobin is a stronger acid which donates hydrogen ion (H+) which in turn displace carbone dioxide from blood

  • c)
carbon dioxide reacts with water to form carbonic acid that lowers the pH in tissue

  • d)
carbon dioxide is less soluble in venous blood than in arterial blood

Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?

The Haldane effect plays a more important role in promoting carbon dioxide transport than that of the Bohr effect in promoting oxygen transport because of reason 2: carbaminohaemoglobin is a stronger acid which splits into hydrogen ion (H+) and bicarbonate (HCO3-).

Explanation: The Haldane effect refers to the increased capacity of deoxygenated blood to carry carbon dioxide, whereas the Bohr effect describes the increased release of oxygen in response to higher carbon dioxide levels and lower pH. In the Haldane effect, when oxyhemoglobin (hemoglobin bound to oxygen) releases oxygen in the tissues, it becomes deoxyhemoglobin, which can then bind to carbon dioxide to form carbaminohemoglobin. Carbaminohemoglobin is a stronger acid than oxyhemoglobin, and thus it is more likely to donate a hydrogen ion (H+) and form bicarbonate (HCO3-). This process facilitates the transport of carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs, where it can be exhaled.

On the other hand, the Bohr effect focuses on the release of oxygen from hemoglobin in response to increased carbon dioxide levels and decreased pH. While this is an important factor in oxygen transport, the Haldane effect plays a more significant role in the overall transport of carbon dioxide due to the chemical reactions involved and the greater affinity of deoxyhemoglobin for carbon dioxide.
