Mechanical rupport, enzyme circulation/protein synthesis and detoxific...
ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) is an organelle present in eukaryotic cells that plays a crucial role in various cellular processes. The following are the functions of ER:

Mechanical support
ER provides structural support to the cell by forming a network of tubular and flat vesicles that extend throughout the cytoplasm. The ER also helps in maintaining the cell shape and integrity.

Enzyme circulation/Protein synthesis
The rough ER is studded with ribosomes, which are responsible for the synthesis of proteins. The newly synthesized proteins are then transported to the Golgi apparatus for further processing and modification. The smooth ER, on the other hand, is involved in the synthesis of lipids, steroids, and other molecules.

Detoxification of drugs
The smooth ER also plays a vital role in detoxifying drugs and other harmful substances. It contains enzymes that can break down various toxins and convert them into less harmful substances that can be excreted by the body.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the ER is an essential organelle that performs various functions like providing mechanical support, protein synthesis, and detoxification of drugs. The proper functioning of ER is vital for the overall health and well-being of the cell and the organism.
