Consider the following statements:1. Central Administrative Tribunal i...
Tribunals were not a part of the original Constitution; it was incorporated in the Indian Constitution by 42nd Amendment Act, 1976. The CAT was set up on 1st November 1985 as a statutory body under tl1e Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985. So, statement (1) is not correct. It has jurisdiction to deal with service matters about the Central Government employees or any Union Territory, or local or other Government under the control of the Government of India, or of a corporation owned or controlled by the Central Government. Members of the defence forces and officers and servants of the Supreme Court are excluded from the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal. So, statement (2) is correct.
It has 17 regular benches, 15 of which operate at the principal seats of High Courts and the
remaining two at Jaipur and Lucknow. These Benches also hold circuit sittings at other seats of High Courts. The tribunal consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Members. The members are drawn, both from judicial and administrative streams, to give the tribunal the benefit of expertise both in legal and administrative spheres. The appeals against the orders of an Administrative Tribunal shall lie before the Division Bench of the concerned High Court. Under Article-323A, only one Tribunal for the Centre and one for each State or two or more States may be established.
So, statement (3) is not correct.
Therefore, the correct answer is (c).

Consider the following statements:1. Central Administrative Tribunal i...
Statement 1: Central Administrative Tribunal is a constitutional body made by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act.
Statement 2: Members of the defence forces and officers and servants of the Supreme Court are excluded from the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal.
Statement 3: As per the Constitution, only one tribunal for the Centre and one for each State may be established.

Explanation:

Statement 1: Central Administrative Tribunal is a constitutional body made by the 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act.
The first statement is incorrect. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) is not a constitutional body. It was established by an act of Parliament, namely, the Central Administrative Tribunal Act, 1985. The CAT was set up to provide a forum for the adjudication of disputes and complaints with respect to recruitment and conditions of service of persons appointed to public services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union or any State.

Statement 2: Members of the defence forces and officers and servants of the Supreme Court are excluded from the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal.
The second statement is correct. The Central Administrative Tribunal Act, 1985 specifically excludes certain categories of employees from its jurisdiction. This includes members of the defence forces and officers and servants of the Supreme Court. The exclusion of these categories of employees from the jurisdiction of the CAT is provided to ensure that there is no interference in the functioning of these institutions.

Statement 3: As per the Constitution, only one tribunal for the Centre and one for each State may be established.
The third statement is incorrect. As per the Constitution, Parliament has the power to establish administrative tribunals for the Centre as well as for the States. There is no restriction on the number of tribunals that can be established. The establishment of tribunals is done through acts of Parliament or State legislatures, as the case may be. These acts specify the jurisdiction, powers, and functions of the tribunals.

In conclusion, the correct statements are:
Statement 2: Members of the defence forces and officers and servants of the Supreme Court are excluded from the jurisdiction of the Central Administrative Tribunal.
Therefore, the correct answer is option C) 2 only.
