Initial Situation:
- Two metal spheres with radii R and 2R have the same surface charge density sigma.

When brought in contact:
- When the spheres are brought in contact, charge will flow from the sphere with higher radius to the one with smaller radius.
- This is because the charges will redistribute themselves to minimize the electrostatic potential energy.

Charge redistribution:
- The total charge on the system remains the same after contact and separation.
- The charge Q on the larger sphere will reduce and the charge q on the smaller sphere will increase.
- The charges will redistribute in a way that the potential on both spheres becomes equal.

Calculation of new surface charge densities:
- Let the new surface charge density on the sphere with radius R be sigma1 and on the sphere with radius 2R be sigma2.
- Since charge is conserved, the total charge Q on the larger sphere will be equal to the total charge q on the smaller sphere.
- The new surface charge densities can be calculated using the formula: Q = 4πR^2 * sigma1 = 4π(2R)^2 * sigma2

Final Result:
- Solving the above equation, we find that sigma1 = 4 * sigma2.
- Therefore, the new surface charge density on the sphere with radius R will be 4 times the surface charge density on the sphere with radius 2R after they are brought in contact and separated.
