Chromosome count in Maize root cell during different phases

G1 phase

During the G1 phase, also known as the first gap phase of the cell cycle, the cell grows and performs its normal functions. At this phase, the cell has a diploid number of chromosomes, which means that the maize root cell has 20 chromosomes.

S-phase

During the S-phase, the cell undergoes DNA replication to produce two identical copies of each chromosome. As a result, the number of chromosomes in the cell doubles. Therefore, the maize root cell would have 40 chromosomes at the end of the S-phase.

M-phase

During the M-phase, also known as the mitotic phase, the cell undergoes mitosis, which is the process of dividing the replicated chromosomes into two identical daughter cells. At this phase, the cell has a diploid number of chromosomes, which means that the maize root cell would have 20 chromosomes after the completion of the M-phase.

Therefore, the chromosome count in the maize root cell would be 20 at G1 phase, 40 after S-phase, and 20 after M-phase.
