Carbon forms covalent Bond because the as the atmoic number of C is 6 so it's electronic configuration is 2,4...the elecrons in the valance she'll that is 4 here , hence it's valency is 4....so it have only three condition two make itself stable , either it would lost 4 e- or gain 4e- .....this need higher energy to remove 4e- , so it will not lose....no atoms in this world who could give 4e- to C so....there mutual sharing of e- between the atoms occurs which lead to covalent Bond.

All the 6 protns will try to hold on 2 electrons. It will male it unstable. If it tries to gain 4 electrons then it will not be easy for 6 protons to handle 10 electrons.
