Carbon forms covalent Bond because the as the atmoic number of C is 6 so it's electronic configuration is 2,4...the elecrons in the valance she'll that is 4 here , hence it's valency is 4....so it have only three condition two make itself stable , either it would lost 4 e- or gain 4e- .....this need higher energy to remove 4e- , so it will not lose....no atoms in this world who could give 4e- to C so....there mutual sharing of e- between the atoms occurs which lead to covalent Bond.

Carbon has 4 electrons in its valence shell. ... Therefore, to complete the octet, it shares 4 electrons with other atoms. That is why, carbon forms compounds mainly by covalent bonding.


A carbon atom has been no tendency to lose its four valence electrons or gain four more electrons from other atoms. Therefore, carbon atom completes its octet only by sharing its valence electrons with other atoms. As a result, therefore carbon alwaysforms only covalent bonds with other atoms.
