Which of the following statements regarding metabolic pathways is inc...
Kreb's cycle is primarily a catabolic pathway, but it provides precursors for various biosynthetic pathways thereby an anabolic pathway too. Hence, it is called an amphibolic pathway. It serves as a pathway for the oxidation of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. When fats are respiratory substrate they are first broken down into glycerol and fatty acid. Glycerol is converted into DHAP (Dihydroxyacetone phosphate) and acetyl CoA. This acetyl CoA enters into the Kreb's cycle.

Which of the following statements regarding metabolic pathways is inc...
Incorrect Statement: After fat digestion, fatty acids can no longer participate in cellular respiration.

Explanation:
Fatty acids are a major source of energy in the body and can be broken down through a process called beta-oxidation to produce acetyl-CoA. Acetyl-CoA can then enter the citric acid cycle (also known as the Krebs cycle) and participate in cellular respiration to produce ATP, the energy currency of the cell. Therefore, the statement that fatty acids can no longer participate in cellular respiration after fat digestion is incorrect.

Key Points:
- Fatty acids are a type of lipid that can be obtained from the digestion of dietary fats or the breakdown of stored fats in the body.
- The process of breaking down fatty acids into acetyl-CoA is called beta-oxidation and occurs in the mitochondria.
- Beta-oxidation involves a series of reactions that remove two carbon units from the fatty acid chain, producing acetyl-CoA molecules.
- Acetyl-CoA can then enter the citric acid cycle, where it reacts with oxaloacetate to produce citrate.
- The citric acid cycle is a series of enzymatic reactions that further break down acetyl-CoA, releasing energy in the form of ATP and reducing equivalents (NADH and FADH2).
- The reducing equivalents produced in the citric acid cycle are then used in the electron transport chain to generate additional ATP through oxidative phosphorylation.
- Therefore, fatty acids play a crucial role in cellular respiration by providing a significant source of energy for the body.

Conclusion:
The statement that fatty acids can no longer participate in cellular respiration after fat digestion is incorrect. Fatty acids can be broken down through beta-oxidation to produce acetyl-CoA, which can then enter the citric acid cycle and participate in cellular respiration to produce ATP.
