Conversion of Galvanometer into Voltmeter

To convert a galvanometer into a voltmeter, a high resistance is connected in series with the galvanometer. The value of this resistance is calculated using the following formula:

R = (Vg / Ig) - Rg

Where R = Resistance to be added in series
Vg = Maximum voltage that the voltmeter can measure
Ig = Full scale deflection current of the galvanometer
Rg = Resistance of the galvanometer

Calculation

Given, Rg = 100 Ω, Ig = 10 mA = 0.01 A, and Vg = 10 V

Substituting the values in the above formula, we get:

R = (10 / 0.01) - 100
R = 900 Ω

Therefore, the resistance to be added in series with the galvanometer is 900 Ω. Option B is the correct answer.
