Concentration of CO2:
C4 plants have a higher concentration of CO2 in the bundle sheath cells where the Calvin cycle occurs. This is achieved by pumping CO2 from the mesophyll cells to the bundle sheath cells using the C4 cycle.

C4 cycle:
The C4 cycle involves the fixation of CO2 into a four-carbon compound, which is then transported to the bundle sheath cells. This cycle occurs in the mesophyll cells, where the enzyme PEP carboxylase fixes CO2 into a four-carbon compound called oxaloacetate. This compound is then converted into malate, which is transported to the bundle sheath cells.

Calvin cycle:
In the bundle sheath cells, malate is decarboxylated to release CO2, which is then fixed by Rubisco into a three-carbon compound during the Calvin cycle. This cycle occurs in the presence of a high concentration of CO2, which prevents the occurrence of photorespiration.

Conclusion:
Thus, the reason why photorespiration does not occur in C4 plants is due to the increased concentration of CO2 at the enzyme site, which prevents the breakdown of organic compounds formed during photosynthesis.
