Tubectomy Procedure

Tubectomy is a surgical procedure that involves tying up or removing a small part of the fallopian ducts. This procedure is also known as a female sterilization procedure. It is a permanent method of contraception used to prevent pregnancy. The procedure involves blocking both fallopian tubes so that the eggs released from the ovaries cannot reach the uterus, and therefore, cannot be fertilized by sperm.

Steps involved in Tubectomy Procedure

The tubectomy procedure involves the following steps:

1. Pre-operative preparation: Before the procedure, the woman is given a general anesthesia to ensure that she is asleep and feels no pain during the procedure. Her abdomen is then cleaned and sterilized with an antiseptic solution.

2. Making an incision: The surgeon makes a small incision in the lower abdomen or near the navel to access the fallopian tubes.

3. Accessing the Fallopian Tubes: The fallopian tubes are then accessed by making a small incision in the abdominal wall or by using a laparoscope, which is a thin, lighted tube that is inserted through a small incision in the abdomen.

4. Tying or removing a part of fallopian tube: The surgeon then either ties up or removes a small part of each fallopian tube to prevent the eggs from being fertilized. The ends of the tubes are then sealed with heat or by using small clips or rings.

5. Closing the incision: Finally, the incision is closed with stitches or surgical tape, and the patient is taken to the recovery room.

After the procedure, the woman is usually advised to rest for a few days and avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity. She may experience some discomfort, cramping, or spotting for a few days after the procedure. Tubectomy is a safe and effective method of contraception for women who want to prevent pregnancy permanently.
