The reaction between NO and NO2 is a redox reaction that occurs at 253K. The balanced equation for the reaction is:

2NO + NO2 → N2O3

The compound of nitrogen X formed by the reaction of NO and NO2 is N2O3. This compound is also known as dinitrogen trioxide.

Reaction of compound X with water:

N2O3 reacts with water to form an unstable acid called nitrous acid (HNO2):

N2O3 + H2O → 2HNO2

Shape of the anion of compound Y:

The anion of compound Y is the nitrite ion (NO2-). The shape of the nitrite ion is triangular planar. This is because the nitrite ion has three electron pairs around the central nitrogen atom. The three electron pairs repel each other and spread out as far as possible, resulting in a triangular planar shape.

The reaction between NO and NO2 at 253K forms the compound N2O3. N2O3 reacts with water to form nitrous acid (HNO2), which in turn forms the nitrite ion (NO2-). The shape of the nitrite ion is triangular planar.
