This defect is known as Schottky defect, where both positive and negative ions are missing from the unit cells.

Reason (R) Explanation:
The Frenkel defect is a different type of point defect in ionic solids. In this defect, a cation is dislocated from its lattice site to an interstitial site, creating a vacancy at the lattice site and an interstitial cation. This defect does not involve the creation of extra anions to maintain electrical neutrality.

Therefore, the Frenkel defect does not provide a correct explanation for Assertion (A). While both the assertion and the reason are individually correct, the reason does not explain why an ionic solid can still be electrically neutral even if some cations are missing from its unit cells.
