Eligibility Criteria for JEE Exam
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a highly competitive examination conducted in India for admission into various undergraduate engineering programs. The eligibility criteria for appearing in the JEE exam are as follows:
Age Limit:
- General category candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1996.
- For SC, ST, and PWD candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years.
Academic Qualifications:
- Candidates must have passed their class 12th examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in the year 2021 or 2022.
- Those who appeared in their class 12th examination in 2020 but failed need to pass it again in 2021.
- The minimum academic requirement is a score of at least 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC, ST, and PWD candidates) in the class 12th examination or being in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective boards.
Subject Combination:
- Candidates must have studied at least 5 subjects in their class 12th examination.
- The mandatory subjects are Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- The other two subjects can be any one of the following: Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Informatics Practices, or Statistics.
Number of Attempts:
- Candidates can attempt JEE Main for a maximum of 3 times in consecutive years.
- However, there is no attempt limit for JEE Advanced, which is the next stage of the examination.
Reservation:
- Candidates belonging to certain categories (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, PWD) are eligible for reservation as per government norms.
- They must possess valid category certificates at the time of counseling/admission.
It is important for candidates to carefully read and understand the eligibility criteria before applying for the JEE exam. Any candidate who does not meet the specified eligibility requirements will not be allowed to appear in the examination.
