Eligibility Criteria for Electrical Engineering Optional Subject Exam

To appear for the Electrical Engineering optional subject exam in the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) civil services examination, candidates must fulfill certain eligibility criteria. These criteria are outlined below:

1. Educational Qualification:
Candidates must hold a degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university or institution. The degree can be a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or any equivalent qualification.

2. Age Limit:

- Minimum Age: Candidates must have attained the age of 21 years on August 1st of the examination year.
- Maximum Age: The upper age limit varies based on the category of the candidate. The general category has a maximum age limit of 32 years, while there are relaxations for candidates belonging to reserved categories such as OBC, SC, ST, etc.

3. Nationality:
Candidates must be either:
- A citizen of India, or
- A subject of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

4. Number of Attempts:
Candidates belonging to the general category can appear for the UPSC civil services examination a maximum of six times. However, there are relaxations for candidates belonging to reserved categories. The number of attempts allowed for OBC candidates is nine, while SC/ST candidates can appear for the exam any number of times until they reach the upper age limit.

5. Other Requirements:
Candidates must ensure that they meet the physical and medical standards as specified by the UPSC. They must also possess good character and sound mental health.
