Rani bought more apples than oranges. She sells apples at Rs. 23 a pie...
Given:
Rani sells apples at Rs. 23 a piece and makes a 15% profit.
Rani sells oranges at Rs. 10 a piece and makes a 25% profit.
She gets Rs. 653 after selling all the apples and oranges.

To find:
Rani's profit percentage.

Solution:
Let's assume Rani bought x apples and y oranges.

Profit from selling apples:
Rani sells apples at Rs. 23 a piece and makes a 15% profit.
So, the cost price of each apple = Rs. 23 / (1 + 15/100) = Rs. 23 / 1.15
Total profit from selling apples = 15/100 * cost price of each apple * number of apples
= 15/100 * (23 / 1.15) * x
= 0.15 * 23/1.15 * x
= 0.15 * 23 * x/1.15

Profit from selling oranges:
Rani sells oranges at Rs. 10 a piece and makes a 25% profit.
So, the cost price of each orange = Rs. 10 / (1 + 25/100) = Rs. 10 / 1.25
Total profit from selling oranges = 25/100 * cost price of each orange * number of oranges
= 25/100 * (10 / 1.25) * y
= 0.25 * 10/1.25 * y
= 0.25 * 10 * y/1.25

Total profit:
Total profit = Profit from selling apples + Profit from selling oranges
= 0.15 * 23 * x/1.15 + 0.25 * 10 * y/1.25
= 0.15 * 23 * x/1.15 + 0.25 * 10 * y/1.25
= 0.15 * 23 * x + 0.25 * 10 * y

Given that the total profit is Rs. 653, we have:
0.15 * 23 * x + 0.25 * 10 * y = 653

Simplifying the equation:
3.45x + 2.5y = 653 ...(1)

It is also given that Rani bought more apples than oranges, i.e., x > y.

To find Rani's profit percentage, we need to find the profit percentage of total cost, which is given by:
Profit percentage = (Total profit / Total cost) * 100

We can find the total cost by adding the cost of apples and oranges:
Total cost = Cost of apples + Cost of oranges
= (Cost price of each apple * number of apples) + (Cost price of each orange * number of oranges)
= (23 / 1.15) * x + (10 / 1.25) * y
= 23 * x/1.15 + 10 * y/1.25
= 20 * x + 8 * y/1.15

We can substitute the value of x from equation (1) into the total cost equation:
Total cost = 20 * x + 8 * y/1

Rani bought more apples than oranges. She sells apples at Rs. 23 a pie...
Let number of apples and oranges that Rani brought be A and O respectively.
Now, 23A + 10O = 653 Since 653 has last digit as 3 which can come by multiplying 23 with 1, 11, 21, 31 and so on.
Here, number of apples bought is greater than number of oranges. So, A > O
We can see that A = 21 and O = 17 is the only solution.
So, number of Apples bought = 21 and number of Oranges bought = 17.
Cost of an Apple = 23/1.15 and Cost of an Orange = 10/1.25
Overall cost = (23/1.15) × 21 + (10/1.25) × 17 = 483/1.15 + 170/1.25 = 420 + 136 = 556
Profit = 653 - 556 = 97
Profit percentage = (97/556) x 100 = 17.4%
Hence, option (b) is correct.
