When the train crosses a pole width of the pole is negligible so we can ignore it so we can find speed of the train by distance / speed so speed will be 120/4 = 24m/sec Now when train will cross platform so width of the platform cannot be neglected so its formula will be length of the train + length of the platform / time = speed so we know the speed so we can find 120+180/time = 24. 300/24 = 12.5 sec.

Explanation:

Given:
- Length of the train = 120 m
- Time taken to pass an electric pole = 5 sec
- Length of the railway platform = 180 m

Calculating the total length to be covered:
- Total length to be covered = Length of the train + Length of the platform
- Total length = 120 m + 180 m = 300 m

Calculating the time taken to cross the platform:
- Speed = Distance/Time
- Speed of the train = 120 m / 5 sec = 24 m/s
- Time taken to cross the platform = Total length / Speed
- Time taken = 300 m / 24 m/s = 12.5 sec

Conclusion:
- The time taken by the train to cross a 180 m long railway platform is 12.5 seconds, which is closest to option A (12 sec). Therefore, the correct answer is option A.
