Carbon and oxygen form two compounds. Carbon content in one of them is...
Law of Multiple Proportions Explanation:
The Law of Multiple Proportions states that when two elements form more than one compound, the ratios of the masses of the second element that combine with a fixed mass of the first element can be reduced to small whole numbers.

Carbon and Oxygen Compounds:
- In the first compound, the carbon content is 42.9%.
- In the second compound, the carbon content is 27.3%.

Analysis:
- Let's assume the second element in both compounds is oxygen.
- According to the Law of Multiple Proportions, the ratio of oxygen in the two compounds should be a simple whole number ratio.
- In the first compound, the remaining 57.1% (100% - 42.9%) must be oxygen.
- In the second compound, the remaining 72.7% (100% - 27.3%) must be oxygen.

Calculations:
- The ratio of oxygen in the first compound is 57.1/42.9 ≈ 1.33.
- The ratio of oxygen in the second compound is 72.7/27.3 ≈ 2.67.

Conclusion:
- The oxygen to carbon ratio in the two compounds is not a whole number.
- This supports the Law of Multiple Proportions, as the ratios are in simple whole number ratios.
- Therefore, the given data support the Law of Multiple Proportions.

Carbon and oxygen form two compounds. Carbon content in one of them is...
In the first compound,

If C = 42.9%, then O = 100 – 42.9 = 57.1%
Let 100 g of the compound be taken.
Then, 1 g oxygen combines with 42.9/57.1 = 0.75 g carbon
In the second compound, amount of carbon = 27.3%
Then, O = 100 – 27.3 = 72.7%
1 g oxygen combines with 27.3/72.7 = 0.375 g of carbon
Ratio of carbon in two compounds combining with the fixed weight of oxygen = 0.75 : 0.375 = 2 : 1
Hence, it supports law of multiple proportions.
