Step-up transformer calculation

Given data:

VA rating of transformer (S) = 100 VA

Primary voltage (Vp) = 120 V

Secondary voltage (Vs) = ?

Formula:

VA rating of transformer (S) = Vp x Ip = Vs x Is

Where, Ip and Is are primary and secondary currents, respectively.

Turns ratio (N) = Vs/Vp

Is/Ip = N

Calculation:

Since the transformer is step-up, the secondary voltage will be greater than the primary voltage.

Therefore, the turns ratio N will be greater than 1.

Let's assume the turns ratio as N = 10.

Then, Is/Ip = N = 10

Ip = S/Vp = 100/120 = 0.833 A

Is = Ip x N = 0.833 x 10 = 8.33 A

Vs = Is x Vs = 8.33 x 120 = 999.6 V

However, the actual turns ratio may be different from the assumed value of 10.

Therefore, we need to calculate the actual turns ratio using the given data.

N = Vs/Vp = 12/120 = 0.1

Is/Ip = N = 0.1

Ip = S/Vp = 100/120 = 0.833 A

Is = Ip x N = 0.833 x 0.1 = 0.0833 A

Vs = Is x Vs = 0.0833 x 120 = 9.996 V

Therefore, the secondary voltage of the transformer is 9.996 V, which is approximately equal to 10 V.

The correct answer is option (d) 132 V, which is not obtained from the above calculation.

Hence, the question may have some error or ambiguity.
