Follow simple concept:: linkage is inversly related to crossing over .when linkage is done means genes come close to one another it means crossing over cannot take place... I hope you got!!!

Crossing Over between Genes Situated Close to Each Other on a Chromosome

When two genes are situated very close to one another on a chromosome, crossing-over between them is limited.

Explanation:

- Crossing-over refers to the exchange of genetic material between homologous chromosomes during meiosis.
- The frequency of crossing-over between two genes is inversely proportional to the distance between them on the same chromosome. Thus, the closer two genes are, the less likely they are to undergo crossing-over.
- This is because crossing-over occurs at points of physical exchange or chiasmata between homologous chromosomes. If two genes are very close together, there are fewer points of physical exchange between them, making crossing-over less likely.
- The percentage of crossing-over between two genes is referred to as the recombination frequency. When two genes are very close together, the recombination frequency is very low.
- Therefore, when two genes are situated very close to one another on a chromosome, hardly any crossing-overs are produced.

Example:

- An example of two genes situated close together on a chromosome is the gene for red-green color blindness and the gene for hemophilia, which are located on the X chromosome. These two genes are only about 6 map units apart, making them very close together. As a result, the recombination frequency between them is very low, at around 1%.
