Solution:

Given: length= 1 km = 1000m
radius= 1mm
 = 1*10^-3m
and resistivity = 1.72*10^-8 ohm m
Area of cross section 
= πr = 3.14*(10^-3)= 3.14* 10^-6m
 Now, resistance = (resistivity*length)/(area of cross section)
resistance 
= (1.72*10^-8*1000)/(3.14*10^-6) 
resistance = 1.72*10/3.14
resistance = 5.478 ohm 
 Hence, the resistance of a copper wire is 5.478 ohm.

  • Length of copper wire (l) = 1km = 1000m

  • Radius of copper wire (r) = 1mm = 0.001m

  • Resistivity of copper (ρ) = 1.72 × 10-8 Ω m



Formula:
Resistance of wire (R) = (ρ * l) / A
where A = π * r2

Calculation:

  • Area of cross-section (A) = π * r2 = 3.14 * (0.001)2 = 3.14 * 10-6 m2

  • Resistance of wire (R) = (ρ * l) / A = (1.72 × 10-8 * 1000) / (3.14 * 10-6) = 0.00547 Ω
