Interfascicular Cambium

The interfascicular cambium, on the other hand, is located between the vascular bundles, in the ground tissue of the stem. It is derived from the parenchyma cells of the stem. The interfascicular cambium is responsible for the formation of secondary xylem and secondary phloem in the regions between the vascular bundles.

The cells of the interfascicular cambium divide actively, producing new cells on both sides. The cells produced on the inner side differentiate into secondary xylem, while those produced on the outer side differentiate into secondary phloem. As a result, the ground tissue of the stem between the vascular bundles becomes thicker, and the stem becomes wider.
