Verified Answer
Which of the statement about the reaction below are incorrect? 2PbO(s)...
2PbO(s) + C(s) → 2Pb(s) + CO2(g)
Reduced substance – Pb
Pb2+ + 2e– → Pb
Pb gains electrons or its oxidation number is reduced.
Oxidized substance – C
C → C2+ + 2e–
C loses electrons or its oxidation number is increased.
Since oxygen is being removed and the removed oxygen from Lead is added to the elemental Carbon, lead is getting reduced and ccarbon dioxide is getting oxidized.

Which of the statement about the reaction below are incorrect? 2PbO(s)...
Incorrect Statements in the Reaction 2PbO(s) C(s)→2Pb(s) CO2(g):

(i) Lead is getting reduced: This statement is correct as lead oxide (PbO) is being reduced to lead (Pb).

(ii) Carbon dioxide is getting oxidised: This statement is incorrect as carbon dioxide (CO2) is not being oxidized in this reaction.

(iii) Carbon is getting oxidised: This statement is incorrect as carbon (C) is not getting oxidized in this reaction.

(iv) Lead oxide is getting reduced: This statement is correct as lead oxide (PbO) is being reduced to lead (Pb).

Therefore, incorrect statements in the reaction are (ii) and (iii).
